On Sunday, 19 July 2009, I left my house at about 2.30pm to
fetch Rusli Adam from his house at Taman Melawati. We did not
find any problem locating University Apartments, though we
overshot the junction a bit along the Gombak-Bentong road and
had to turn around. It wasn't difficult to locate Block D, where
Bakaq stayed, after assuming that the first and second
blocks were Block A and Block B respectively.
After we reached Block D and parked my white Persona, we could
already hear Bakaq's voice coming from Level 1, chatting with
WanJah (Wan Hamzah Omar) and Shahar who were already there before us. |

Bakaq (Abu Bakar Hashim) invited us into his apartment and brought us into the
living room overlooking a basketball court and the forest.
From the verandah, we could hear the sound of the flow of a
river coming from the forest. Bakaq said ever since he moved
into the apartment 10 years ago, he had never ventured into
the forest to see how the river looked like yet. And he
didn't like the idea of encountering creatures there too.

In between answering phone calls asking for directions to
his apartment, he also narrated to us about his family
history. Not long after, Bab (Anuar Ismail) arrived followed by Amek
(Muhammad Alwi) a few
minutes later. The last to arrive was of course Shahlan Yob,
who we agreed among us, as the one who interrupted Bakaq the
most with his calls asking for the right direction.

After it looked like there was not going to be anyone else
from Jubli Intan65 to turn up for the gathering, Bakaq started
to lead the discussion on the CTB project. But before that, he
said that even though his wife couldn't make it in time to be
with him that
day, he had however, made arrangement with his daughters to
prepare a sumptuous Pakistani meals for us. I said to myself
that if he hadn't said he's going to prepare only "tea and
biscuits" in his earlier email to us, I wouldn't have taken my
lunch that day. Anyway, from the gist of the discussion it was
concluded as follows:-
1. We would like to produce an awesomely high quality CTB that
is more than just pictures but also a representation of our
intellectual gifts, a legacy for our children and even others
outside the circle of JI65. In the words of our EiC (Editor in
Chief), Bakaq, each and everyone of us must have a unique
experience worthy of sharing with the rest of us. Let us
extricate these jewels.
2. There is no restriction to the subject matter for as long as
it is not seditious and immoral. We should not limit our
writings
only to experiences in our College days. Our professional
experiences, our family life experiences, our spiritual
experiences - there must be something that each of us has
experienced that is unique, that can be shared with others.
3. The article in our forum site entitled "Growing Old" started
by Sdr Kamaruddin b Abd Rahman should be picked up and
continued.4. We should not be inhibited by lack of flair in
our writing, just say in our own words the points that we wish
to put across. It is the duty of our EiC to write/rewrite them
in publishable form/style.
5. To-date there were five articles which had been submitted.
More are needed.
5. Shahlan surrendered to us a pack of b/w photographs which
would be scanned soon. We hope others would come forth to do the
same.
5. Whilst time pressure will bring down the quality of our
articles, we should try to get them out soon before the end of
the year.

As for the 40th anniversary at Kuala Kangsar, Wan Jah
also passed a copy of the quotation for room rates,
which he got from Safari Resort Hotel. The hotel
requires 50% deposit
to confirm the rooms availability. We also decided that
we had to form a committee to make sure that both the
projects would go through successfully.
After that, at Bakaq's persuasion, we helped ourselves
to the Pakistani food and other delicious dishes. Whilst
enjoying our meals, Bakaq's talented son, Khidhir, with
his guitar
and harmonica, entertained us with two beautiful country
songs. To watch the video in You Tube, please

We then adjourned to the surau, which was within a
walking distance away from Bakaq's place to perform our
solat asar. After the prayer, we walked back to Bakaq's
place to help ourselves again to the food on the table.

Before it got closer to Maghrib time, we decided to bid
farewell. We thanked Bakaq for being a wonderful host in
holding the
gathering at his place. We did not discuss the date for the
next gathering, but most likely it would be done at the
residence of Hamdan Uda Mat Esa on 8 August 2009 for Hamdan
would be hosting a "majlis khenduri kesyukuran, silaturrahim
and menyambut Ramadhan" on that day and had invited citizens
of JI65 to be there too. |
